Dr. Dean,Thank you for your email of April 5 (copy below) in which you outlined your understanding of what information the board was waiting for from Plante Moran in follow-up to their board meeting presentation on March 14, 2022.
While I can't speak for the other members of the school board, your description of the items requested of Plante Moran does not cover what I asked for at the meeting. My requests related to what you have listed in your email below were as follows:
1. RECAPTURE OF STUDENTS POST COVID. I provided the board and Plante Moran the attached compilation of students counts from MI School Data. I asked Plante Moran for their perspective on why Grosse Pointe's student loss between 2018 and 2021 was at least double as a percent of total enrollment as compared to our peer districts. From an outsider's business perspective, it would appear that they engaged in much more effective student recapture strategies post-COVID.
2. MISSING HOUSES. I asked Plante Moran to provide us with the back-up as to their statement that we had lost in the neighborhood of 590 housing units in the school system. This should be a simple number for them to drill down to by city and identify the locations of where these housing units were eliminated.
While I can't speak for other members of the board, I am disappointed that these questions weren't answered by way of a detailed memo from Plante Moran the week after the questions were asked. I think it is unfair for the board and the community to be asked to wait until May 9 (almost two months after the questions were asked) for some simple answers, especially in light of us voting on the 2022-23 budget the following month.
Respectfully,
Ahmed Ismail

Dear BOE Members,Earlier today Mandy and I had a meeting with Paul Wills from Plante Moran CRESA regarding the following questions/info requests posed by BOE members that stem from the presentation last month that Paul provided the BOE:
There is a request for comparative data from other specific school districts including Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Troy, Novi and Northville
There were a series of questions species to the 'housing unit' numbers he shared in his presentation
Paul outlined for Mandy and me the various data sources that his firm uses to gather the data he shared with the BOE. In an effort to verify his numbers he is reaching out to our 6 municipalities to verify various numbers. He will be returning to present to the BOE on this topic at the May 9th BOE meeting.
Of course we will include his updated information and presentation in the packet for that meeting.
FYI - he is not charging GPPSS for this additional information or presentation.
Thanks
Jon
