WEEK OF APRIL 12, 2021
Dear South Families,
I have some important information to share with you about the week of April 12, 2021 for both OneGP Virtual and our traditional face to face students. Every year in April, schools are required to administer a battery of tests which provides the district and state with pertinent information about college readiness and the strength of our curriculum. During the week of April 12th is when students will have the opportunity to take the tests required by the State of Michigan. (Note: while the Federal Government has waived the accountability for schools, meaning the results of the test will not negatively impact the school, we are still required to administer the tests to students.) Juniors who participate in the battery of tests will need three days to complete them all; freshmen and sophomores will generally only need one day to complete their test. If a student has accommodations, the testing period will take longer.
The testing schedule is as follows:
Monday: Regular school day - no testing
Tuesday: No classes for seniors
- PSAT 8/9 for freshmen
- PSAT 10 for sophomores
- SAT for juniors
*Students will be dismissed after testing - lunch will not be served
Wednesday: Regular school day / Workkeys for juniors 8:00 am
Thursday: Regular school day / M-Step for juniors 12:25 pm
Friday: Regular school day
Later this week, students will receive notification of their assigned testing location for Tuesday via Schoology. On Tuesday, students will report to South between 7:40 and 7:55. Preadministration for testing will start at 8:00 so students will need to be in their assigned room before 8:00 am. There will not be a makeup session for the PSAT 8/9 or PSAT10. A makeup session will be scheduled for juniors who are unable to make the testing session on April 13th. Students who are in quarantine on April 13th will automatically be scheduled for the makeup exam and should NOT report to school on the 13th. The makeup exam for the SAT (JUNIORS ONLY) is scheduled for April 27th.
On Wednesday, all students report to school at the normal time and classes will run on the normal bell schedule. Juniors will report to their assigned testing location and take the Workkeys test. There will not be a makeup session for the Workkeys. Juniors who are in quarantine on April 14th should not report to school. Testing locations will be posted in Schoology and in the main hall by the assistant principal’s office. After completion of testing, students will be provided with a half hour lunch. After lunch, students will report to class.
On Thursday, all students report to school at the normal time and classes will run on the normal schedule. Juniors will report to their assigned testing location and take the M-Step. There will not be a makeup session for the M-Step. Juniors who are in quarantine on April 15 should not report to school. The M-Step is given digitally and will begin at the start of 5th hour. Testing locations will be posted in Schoology and in the main hall by the assistant principal’s office. After completion of testing, students will report back to class. If you are a junior and have a school issued Chromebook, please bring that with you to your testing location.
Parents of students with an IEP or 504 plan will receive a separate communication about the timing of tests and the number of days they will be testing. This communication will be sent prior to the end of this week.
