School News
All new freshmen officers and anyone interested in getting involved in class council meet on Wednesday morning at 7:30 AM in Mrs Westfall's room S-184
It is officially the holiday season, which is the season of giving! Adopt-a-family is such a great way to help give back to the community. Please remember to bring in money or gift donations to your 3rd hour! If your 3rd hour is not participating and you would still like to donate, SA is accepting donations until Wednesday, December 14th! Every little bit helps! Drop off your money or gift donations to Ms. Pierce’s room or give it to an SA member!
Do you have any hats, gloves, or scarves that do not fit you anymore? Donate them or any gently used winter gear to the Hat and Gloves Donation Drive hosted by CCC. Bins are found outside Student Activities or in Mr. Smith's room. Please see the poster in the hallway for more info
Thank you for all that donated coats to the Varsity Club Annual Coat Drive. With your help, the school will be donating approximately 425 coats to keep our Detroit Metro Area neighbors warm this season. Although the donation collection is CLOSED we look forward to collecting more next year. So please set them aside for the Varsity Club collection next year.
The elf on the shelf has returned to the halls of South! Swing by the Student Activities office to pick up a sweet treat when you find that lil' devil! Remember, not to touch or move the elf or bad things will happen!
Seniors: Jostens will be in the Main Hall during both lunches on Wednesday, December 7th. You are welcome to order cap and gowns in person at that time or online anytime! Check Schoology, your email or the Friday eBlast for more information and details. See Mrs. Petz in Student Activities with any questions.
Anyone wishing to be part of the school musical in any capacity, on stage or off, should join the Schoology group for updates and announcements. The join code has been posted near the choir room and Pointe Players bulletin board, as well as the Grosse Pointe South Schoology page.
Club News
Do you want to indulge in a fun and creative experience directed by your piers? If so, come audition for One Acts! Next week - December 12 and 13 from 3:15-5:30 in the auditorium. No experience in acting at all. Bring your friends and even your dog!!! We hope to see you there!Auditions for the school musical, Mamma Mia, will take place December 19 and 20 after school in the multipurpose room with callbacks on the 21st. Anyone wishing to be cast in the musical should plan on attending both days. Please join the Schoology group for important information. Peer to Peer and NHS Students- There is a field trip on Wednesday December 21st to Culver's and Meijer for holiday shopping. We will leave at 9:45am and be back to South around 2:30pm. If you are interested, please come down to room 188 or 158 for a permission slip from Mrs. Salajka or Mrs. Hancock.
There is no yoga club meeting this week! Our next meeting is next Thursday for a Holiday Yoga Party! Join the Remind @gpsyog for more details!
Please join us at Crochet Club this and every Wednesday at 7:30am in Mrs. Rothenbuhler's room, 268. Bring your project, or come to learn, there's a limited amount of supplies but happy to share and teach beginners. All other forms of fiber projects and beginners are welcome!
Model UN is meeting after school TODAY in Mr. Peffley's room, 178. All are welcome! This is the first simulation and there is no experience needed to participate. What is Model UN you ask. it is a simulation of the United Nations General Assembly and its multilateral organizations where students perform an ambassador role while debating topics such as gender equality, climate action, global health, and more. Get in the giving spirit! The Black Student Union is holding a food drive for families in need, and a raffle for those who donate! Please give nonperishable items. Protein is preferred and all items must have a label. The more times you donate, the better chance you have of winning! Prizes include Starbucks, Hydrangea, Sugar Bar, and Village nutrition gift cards. Drop off all donations in Mr. Minor’s room- 190. The food drive will go from December 5th through the 16th. All donations will go to Gleaners food bank.
Sports News:
Softball strength and conditioning sessions begin today at 5pm in the Boll Center weight room. All 9th-12th graders interested in softball should try to attend these sessions. Dress to work out and bring water.
