Interesting that they rescinded the mandate the day they were served in a lawsuit. So now the Wayne County Health Department wants to "Strongly Recommend" masks as a covid strategy.
I only want to know if we are now going to follow their "Strongly Recommend" or we are going to allow our families a choice?
I was very careful when I wrote the resolution last November to make masks optional. I specifically included a clause that protected the choice of any staff, student or community member who still wanted to wear a mask.
The families and students that have suffered physically, emotionally and mentally from being forced to wear a mask all day need our protection as well.
I speak now as a parent of a Grosse Pointe student. *Redacted*
We need to address this publicly and make sure that our community members hear the message. We are in the time period that people are making enrollment decisions for school next year. If only the people I know personally choosing other educational options are a sample, we have a real problem.
I am pleading with my fellow Board members and administration to officially make a mask optional policy for our district.
Respectfully,
Lisa Papas, Trustee
