Hello, Lauren, Thank you for taking the time to communicate your thoughts to me.

First, please understand that I am responding to you as an individual board member and neighbor, and NOT on behalf of the other members of the school board and/or the school board as a whole. Under our school board policy, the Board President speaks on behalf of the school board as a whole.

Thank you for sending the Board the article on concerns for the new school year. I requested the Board discuss this but to no avail. As you have seen from my comments last night we should be planning for the rest of the school year and next September. As you can see we have no plans for summer school. Why? We can keep up instruction virtually for those who need summer school to take a class over or advance their education. We know it will be difficult to make the changes in buildings as nothing can be done until all the asbestos has been removed. Right now this cannot start until at least June 12. If the governor decides that we start school in August before the next Covid 19 cycle hits, we will not be able to complete anything . It is totally irresponsible for us to progress with so many unknowns and I feel it is also irresponsible to spend this money on changes knowing that 5 Board seats are up for election in November. A new Board should not be strapped into this position.

Thank you again for reaching out to me. Please know that I share your desire for our schools to be the best they can be. While I can’t speak for the other members of the school board, I personally welcome your comments and concerns, so please don’t hesitate to contact me in the future. My direct email address is pangboc@gpschools.org and my phone number is 313-673-7958. I may also be reached at my personal email. cindypangborn@gmail.com

    Sincerely,

    Cindy
