    Subject: Open Meetings Act
    To: School Board <SchoolBoard@gpschools.org>

    Dear Cindy,

We have an understanding that the board unites behind a vote once it is made. That is one of MASB’s main covenants. That happens because we are not independent. We can only act as a board and board votes stand.

We have a policy that the board president speaks on behalf of the board when we are not at the board table.

Responding via email to all of the board members discussing your opinion on matters potentially before the board is a violation of the Open Meetings Act. You and the other board members have been warned about doing that.

We can discuss in public whether there is any connection at all between coronavirus remedial action and reconfiguration. No matter what the reconfiguration looks like, we will have to address the coronavirus.

Last, the administration has worked all year on the reconfiguration plan. Almost everything is or will be in place shortly to make this transition happen successfully. It would in fact create chaos to go in reverse after getting 85 percent there.

The administration as well as the board has never even discussed doing that. We will hear a report on the progress of the reconfiguration plan at our next meeting. Until then, attempting to answer folks when we do not have that report is ill advised, against our policies, MASB covenants, and the OMA.

    Sincerely, Margaret
