    Thank you for your email to the Board. Proposed Policy 5120 would have no effect on your family provided you timely register your children for school. The proposal only affects a student who registers after the deadline and only to the extent that the student's home school is full. 

     
    If you would like to learn more about the proposed policy, I encourage you to attend tomorrow's regular meeting. It starts at 7:00 p.m. at Brownell. The Board will be voting on this policy at this meeting, although it has discussed this policy at several meetings since January.

    I am a mother to a 20 month old with plans to continue expanding our family soon. We just purchased our dream home in January (2018) that is directly across the street from Ferry. We loved the idea of having our children go to school so close and weighed the benefits vs cons of heavier traffic during pick up/drop off times at the school with having the kids go to a school so close to home. I was unaware of the potential policy 5120. If this policy goes through it would devastate our vision of what our children’s elementary academics would look like. To know there is a possibility that I would have to pack up my younger kids to haul them across town to a different elementary school while one is sitting literally 150 ft away from my front door would be not only frustrating but beyond insulting to me as a tax paying resident. GP schools is one of the big reasons we decided to buy in the pointes vs a community with a smaller price tag. I urge you and ask that you do not pass this policy. Thank you for your time listening and for continuing to make Grosse Pointe schools a desired community to learn in.
