Dear Board Members and Administrative Team,I wanted to thank the Board of Education and administrative team for having the courage to participate in the National Walk-Out and celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's speech. Both events were awesome, well planned and well executed. Our faculty and administration helped bring out the best in our GPPSS students. The Nation Walk-Out went well at all five secondary schools. The students, faculty and administration were attentive to the secure and safety we all wanted. The timely walk-out with supervision was well planned. Our students gave their voice to Honoring the Victims, Rallying Against School Violence and Providing the Resources to keep out students safe and secure.
The 50th Anniversary of the Reverend Martin Luther King speech was awesome. The time and effort to make this happen was well worth it. The Master of Ceremonies (Bob Bury) and Brendal Tindall from the Detroit Historical Society added vale to the evening. Their commitment to help with the event made all the difference. The MLK Committee led by the 389 administrative team made the event even more special. Rebecca, Keith, Maureen, Randal and others were major contributors. The readers made the speech come to life as if they were doing the talking. It added value in a different way. It was easier for me to listen to the important parts of the speech. The student work was the capstone for me. The expressive ways the students took on was outstanding. I even liked the different pieces being shown during the readers. It gave context to what the students were processing in their work. Congratulations to the winners and those who participated.A special thanks to Ahmed for his contribution to the video and sharing his Reverend Martin Luther King picture with us. The video of those who were there was equally impressive. Hearing about the day was special. It does leave a lasting impression.I am proud to be the Superintendent of the Grosse Pointe Public School System. It does take courage to lead in the times we live but when you have an awesome team behind yo it makes it easier.Thanks,GCN--
