Having sat on the Blue Ribbon Committee, and attending all of those lengthy meetings I fully understand the magnitude of our forthcoming district budget issues. As you know, there are much tougher decisions coming down the road. Tough decisions about the budget must be made as soon as possible. This triangulation one isn’t the one to get bogged down in. Done the right way it will have little to no impact on property values. Honestly I don’t think it will have an impact at all. By done right I mean the people who register on time get to go to their regular school as we have been doing for as long as we all can remember. If you register late (and the cut off itself still has to be pretty close to the start of the school year, not 5 months ahead of time or anyone moving in the summer will be stymied by not wanting to miss out on going to their neighborhood schools), you of course go to your normal school unless that means adding another teacher at the last minute. The board can work out the details on this, but I would assume you have a choice of two other local schools to send your child to. I also would assume that next year you could move back to your home school if you register on time. There are too many rumors out there. This isn’t the end all be all issue. Do it right, and make the tough decision here. It won’t be popular (to those who don’t take the time to fully understand it) but that’s ok. Being complacent and adhering verbatim to how things were done in the past will sink this district. I am a total traditionalist, but the reality of the numbers has made me a realist too. We need to make these small adjustments now to avoid radical ones down the road.Thank you,Chace WakefieldGrosse Pointe ShoresChace Wakefield- Associate Broker, GRI, AHWD, SFR and Certified Real Estate Negotiation Expert.2 Time Top 5% of Realtors in Metro DetroitBolton Johnston Associates*NOTE OUR NEW ADDRESS*Direct-313-549-2401
