Coach Sonnenberg has coached for over 20 years, and is currently the head coach for the Brownell Middle School track team, where his Broncos / Lady Broncos have won seven league championships since 2004, with rosters averaging over 150 athletes each year. He is a 7th grade Science teacher at Brownell, and is a graduate of GP South (‘90). As a senior, he served as the team Captain of GP South‘s 11-1 squad (‘89) that finished in the top-20 in the state. He currently holds South’s 1600-meter sophomore record (4:27.1).
Coach Novak has coached for well over 25 years, nearly all of them at Grosse Pointe South. He graduated from Bishop Gallagher ('70) and went on to be a four-year competitor at Wayne State University in Track and Cross Country. He held the 3000 meter Steeplechase record at WSU for a time, and has run the Boston Marathon twice, his best finish an impressive 2 hours, 36 minutes, good for 358th place of 10,000 runners. He is a middle school Science teacher at St. Paul on the Lake Catholic School.
