About NJHS
The National Junior Honor Society is a national organization established to recognize outstanding middle school students. NJHS is more than just academic; it recognizes students who also excel in leadership, service, citizenship, and character. The Faculty Council carefully screens each student eligible for membership in the NJHS to make sure he/she meets the membership criteria.

What are the obligations of membership?
To remain in good standing, NJHS members must maintain academic excellence (GPA of 3.5 or greater), attend monthly meetings and participate in service opportunities involving 4 hours of service (2 in-school and 2 out-of-school) per marking period. Members must demonstrate continuing leadership, citizenship, character, and must participate in NJHS-sponsored activities.

• What are the Eligibility Requirements? (grades 7-8)

• Scholarship - Per national guidelines, at a minimum, students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, or higher. 
  
  
• Service - This involves voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community, done without compensation.
  
  
• Leadership - Student leaders are those who are resourceful, good problem solvers, and idea contributors. Leadership experiences can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others.
  
  
• Character - The student of good character is cooperative; demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability; shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others; and generally maintains a clean disciplinary record.
  
  
• Citizenship - The student who demonstrates citizenship understands the importance of civic engagement; has a high regard for freedom and justice; respects the U.S. form of government; respects the law for all citizens at the local, state, and federal levels; and demonstrates mature participation and responsibility in activities such as scouting, community organizations, or school clubs. Students must have all 1’s and 2’s in conduct and work habits scores to maintain their NJHS membership.
  
  
• Students who have at least a 3.5 GPA and all 1’s and 2’s in conduct and work habits scores for both the two previous quarters will have an opportunity to complete an application form detailing their accomplishments and commitment to service, leadership, character, and citizenship. Applications must be turned in by the specified due date and will be reviewed by the Pierce Faculty Council. Students will then be informed of their application approval or denial in the form of a letter.

What do members get in return?
Members are honored for being outstanding students (members are recognized at the Induction Ceremony and at the yearly end-of year honor nights), are offered participation in leadership training, and grow as human beings by participating in various school and individual service projects.

How do eligible students become members?
Students who are eligible will receive an application during student registration in the beginning of the year. Students must return their information form by the due date and then the Faculty Council will make their selections from the candidates who have returned their application. An induction ceremony will be held for students to become official members of the National Junior Honor Society.
