Hello Gary,
I would like to have this resolution proposal put on the agenda for Monday night's meeting. Let me know if I need to do anything else.
Thanks, Cindy
MOTION TO ADD COMMUNITY MEMBER TO FINANCE - BUDGET COMMITTEE
Background:
1. Prior Boards in the GPPSS have always welcomed community members on both the Finance and Budget and the Audit Committee.
2. Our Strategic Plan calls for “one GP” and collaboration with the community.
3. All of the members of our entire School Board have committed,on the public record, that they want full transparency in all functions of the GPPSS.
4. All School Board members have publicly stated that they value input from the community and that we welcome their devotion of time and expertise in making our school system a premier school system in the Michigan.
5. With our revenues always in question, our enrollment declining and our expenses increasing, we all need to work together, as a community, to maintain the school system that our voters have charged us with delivering.
6. A former board member and board officer, Mr. Brendan Walsh, after his retirement from the school board, has continued to provide us with insight on financial issues and is considered by the community, to be a valuable resource of financial information and institutional memory of where we have been as a school system.
My motion:
I would like to make a motion that this school board extend a formal invitation to Mr. Walsh to serve as a member of our Finance Committee as their community representative through July 1, 2017
In the event that Mr. Walsh is not available or is not willing to commit the time necessary to serve as a member of this committee, I further move that applications be taken from the public with this board voting on the community representative(s) for the Finance - Budget Committee to serve until July 1, 2017 .
