Subject: Mrs. Gafa's request to Board members to stop sending emails that would be made public
Dear Mrs. Gafa
REALLY ? I just opened your email in which you are asking all of us board members "not to participate in forwarding our opinions to all trustees"
after you just championed the resolution which was unanimously approved 6-0 to post our emails on the website. This is totally unacceptable to me and should be to every board member who voted to bring this unfiltered transparency to our residents.
It is disingenuous for you to take the on-camera public stance you have taken demanding transparency only to ask for exceptions and to make decisions as to what public documents will or won't be left online as you have the past two weeks. A policy was voted on, Chris has been working diligently to make it happen and you have no right to selectively delete from the site or instruct Chris to violate the resolution as approved.
These emails that are posted, convey a sense of purpose and understanding about the School Boards various concerns. These documents for the public, show the reasons why a trustee would vote a certain way and why different trustees vary on their opinions. After all, we are elected members, not your employees. My employer is all of the residents of GP. If a document or an email can be obtained with a FOIA, then you have no right to decide by yourself that it should or shouldn't be posted. The community deserves to know why we agree or disagree on certain matters and our Board of Education minutes can't possibly be detailed enough to reflect our reasoning.
I hope that you can clarity your reasoning on this matter to me and all Board members before this Mondays meeting, saving the need for public embarrassment.
Thank you, Cindy Pangborn
