Grosse Pointe Public Schools adopted the Kindergarten Everyday Mathematics Common Core Edition for the 2013-14 school year. Everyday Math uses hands-on activity based methods to present numeration, visualizing number, place value as tens and more, number operations as real-life situations and representations, measuring with objects for length, weight, or volume, geometric two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes, and graphing. These skills are then used to analyze, compare, and synthesize information to solve higher order thinking problems.
Mathematics is taught daily through calendar, activities at centers, Smart Board activities, as well as all group instruction. Math assessments are made periodically to determine instructional needs. Kindergarten students take the online NWEA tests for Mathematics in January and in May.
