Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP)

The Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) is Michigan’s state-funded preschool program for four-year-old children. The program is funded by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) and administered locally by Wayne RESA.

GSRP classrooms are limited to 16 students and operate four full days per week (Monday–Thursday). The program offers a comprehensive approach that includes educational instruction, health and social services, mental health support, and opportunities for parent involvement.

Young Five Students at their Lockers

Grosse Pointe Public Schools GSRP Overview

Grosse Pointe Public Schools is proud to offer a high-quality early learning experience through its GSRP program. We are committed to supporting our youngest learners and value strong partnerships with families and the community.
To be eligible, children must turn four years old by September 1 of the school year. Most families will be notified of acceptance by mid-July. If openings remain, children who turn four between September 1 and December 1 may be considered, with applications for those students accepted in late August.
Enrollment is an ongoing process throughout the school year. When classrooms reach capacity, students are prioritized based on established eligibility criteria, with consideration given to factors that may impact a child’s development or future academic success. Submission of an application does not guarantee acceptance. A waitlist is maintained, and openings are filled as they become available.
The Grosse Pointe Public Schools pre-kindergarten curriculum aligns with the National Early Childhood Standards and the Michigan State Board of Education’s Early Childhood Standards of Quality. Program quality is maintained through classroom observations, teacher evaluations, collaborative planning, Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), student assessments, and the Program Quality Assessment (PQA) process.
