Library Department

The mission of the Grosse Pointe Public School Library Media Program is to provide a challenging learning environment that enables all students to develop skills and knowledge necessary to become self-directed, life-long learners, highly productive citizens, and innovative contributors to a technological and diverse society.

The Library Media Curriculum Guide is a document that has been created by a team of library media specialists in consultation with district administrators and local community members.  It has been revised as a result of the AASL/ISTE Standards Crosswalk and is intended to increase the overall effectiveness of teaching the Y5-12th grade library standards and provide an instructional framework for equitable teaching and learning across the district.

Update adopted in WINTER 2024

GPPSS values the training and certification held by all of its school librarians/media specialists.  Our educators are trained in areas including Collection Development, Foundations of the Information Professions, Educational Techology, Access & Organization of Information, Management of School Library Media Programs.  They are teachers, literacy and reading experts, information specialists, program administrators, and leaders.
