Students selected for the Reading program will meet with a Reading Specialist several times per week for an intensive focus on reading skills and comprehension techniques.
1st grade students will meet 5 times a week.
2nd grade students will meet 4 times a week.
3rd grade students will meet 3 times per week.
4th and 5th grade students will meet 2 times a week.
The Reading Specialists will work together with your child's classroom teacher to maximize the time spent on Reading and Language Arts skills during the school day. Time spent with the Reading Specialist will be in addition to their classroom reading program.
Upper elementary students will learn techniques to increase understanding of informational reading. Strategies will focus on decoding, fluency, and comprehension.
Lower elementary students will practice decoding skills to strengthen oral and silent reading. A variety of methods will be introduced to improve comprehension and fluency.
