1 unit - Requirement in grades 6, 7, 8

Earth and Physical Science 6
Teachers: Mary Brecht & open

This course is based upon the facts and concepts needed for literacy in the earth and physical sciences. Emphasis is placed on hands-on laboratory experiences. The major units of study are consistent with Essential Goals and Objectives in Science Education and will build on the knowledge acquired in the elementary science program. A unit on health and adolescent concerns is included.

Life Science 7
Teachers: Jack Pertile & Bill Thompson

This course offers an overview of living things from the simplest unicellular structure to the most complex, the human. The major units study are consistent with the Michigan Essential Goals and Objectives in Science Education and build on the knowledge acquired in previous years of study. The course emphasizes laboratory safety, technology, and the use of scientific inquiry. A unit of health and adolescent concerns is included

Earth and Physical Science 8
Teachers: Danuta Danko & Bill Thompson

This course emphasizes the process of scientific inquiry and aspects of knowledge basic to scientific literacy. It is the first of a two-year sequence to be completed in grade 9. These courses are designed to students with a comprehensive understanding of both earth science and physical science. The integration of technology, mathematics, and writing skills Into the study of science is an expected The major units of study are aligned with the Michigan Essential Goals and Objectives for Science Education in Earth and Physical Science. This course builds on the knowledge acquired in previous years of study.

Grade 8 Elective Science (1/2 UNIT)

This course is designed as an enrichment experience to meet the needs of students who have a high interest in science. The focus of this course will be an in-depth study of some units introduced in the eighth and ninth grade earth and physical science courses.
