North’s women’s basketball team wins State Championship

North’s team of 12 players and two coaches defeated a very competitive and talented East Lansing team to capture the Michigan High School Athletic Association Class A State Championship game at Eastern Michigan University on Saturday, March 8. The final score was 58-46.

The team’s overall record was 26-2. They finished in the Macomb Area County Conference Red Division with a record of 12-0, and earned the titles of MAC Red Champs, District Champs, Regional Champs, and State Champs. The team’s grade point average is an impressive 3.49.

Coach Gary Bennett has consistently shared these words about the team, “They have done it the right way all season.” The right way is taking care of each other. It is about helping competitors stand up when knocked down. It is about caring about each other on and off the court. It is about practicing hard on the court and working hard in the classroom. It is not about hanging heads in defeat, but standing taller with great confidence. Head coach Gary Bennett was assisted by Matt Trombley. Captains were Sarah P. and Christine K. The team included: Ariel B., Christine B., Sarah B., Kelly D., Jasmine K., Madie K., Allison L., Olivia S., Katelyn V., and Kayla W.,
