GPEA and GPPSS reach collaborative teacher contract agreement
Mindful of the State of Michigan’s economy, patterns and projections for health and retirement costs, and the sincere desire to fairly compensate our dedicated teachers, the Grosse Pointe Educational Association (GPEA) and Grosse Pointe Public School System (GPPSS) have negotiated and approved a teacher contract which will extend through the 2008-09 school year.
Major components of the agreement include:
- a salary increase which comes in two forms: 1% on salary schedule and 1% off salary schedule for both years
- move to a Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO Community Blue 2 health program
- a Coordination of Benefits agreement with working spouse employer
- a move to a $5 generic/$25 brand name drug card from a $7/$15 card
- an increase in chiropractic co-pay to $10
- a school calendar for both contract years
This agreement supports the Board of Education resolution to “negotiate settlements with all bargaining units recognized by the district that are consistent with Board parameters and the district’s financial means.”
Thomas Harwood, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources and Labor Relations said, “Our valued staff shares our belief in academic excellence and the need for collaborative wise stewardship to maintain that tradition.”
