Through the special effort of Dr. Robert Thomas, the Dean of College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the advisory chair of Confucius Institute and Grosse Pointe resident Dr. Yue Ming, Chair of Eastern Studies, both of Wayne State University, a delegation of thirty eight educators from southeast Michigan will be guests of the Chinese government as part of the Chinese Bridge Delegation to China June 24-July 2, 2007.

Grosse Pointe Public School System Superintendent Suzanne Klein will be heading up a group of ten Grosse Pointe educators and School Board members invited to be part of the delegation. The one week tour of Chinese educational facilities is being coordinated through Hanban (Office of Chinese Language Council International). The goal of this program is to provide educators with useful contacts and knowledge about Chinese culture and language.

The delegation will meet with Chinese national and regional leaders and visit schools and learn about the education system in China and share ideas with other educators who are building Chinese programs in their schools. Hanban has arranged meetings with Chinese education leaders for the purpose of establishing ties with sister schools and/or cities in China. In addition, the delegation will visit scenic and cultural sites to explore China's rich history and learn about the country that is rapidly changing and rising on the global stage.

For further information, contact Dr. Yue Ming at 313-577-0481.
