First Grade Report Cards

In first grade, children are graded three times a year (Nov./Dec., March/April and June).  They will receive either a "B", "P", or an "H".
What do these letters mean...

B:  Beginning...the student is continuing to build skills, but may still need assistance and guidance to be successful (not at grade level in subject area)

P:  Progressing...the student is continuing to work on skills but does not need a lot of assistance (at grade level)

H:  Highly successful...the student is independent at the skills and has mastered all (above grade level)

If your child receives all "P's", that means they are at grade level and are doing well.  Children may receive a "P+" if they are at grade level and are displaying excellent skills and are giving the extra effort.  I only give "H's" for children who display independent skills in that given subject area with a mastery of all skills.  In the first marking period, "H's" are not given.  If a child is highly successful in a given subject, they may receive an "H" in March/April or June.  Every marking period has different expectations to be at grade level...

  • Nov./Dec.- to be reading at grade level, the student needs to be reading at a DRA level 3
  • March/April- to be reading at grade level, the student needs to be reading at a DRA level 10
  • June- to be reading at grade level, the student needs to be reading at a DRA level 16-18
