ABBY

The ABBY (American Booksellers’ Book of the Year) Award is voted on annually by members of the American Booksellers’ Association to honor the books they most often recommended to customers during the previous year. The children’s book category was created in 1993.

The Coretta Scott King Awards

The Coretta Scott King Awards were designed to commemorate and foster the life, works and dreams of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and to honor his wife Coretta Scott King for her courage and determination to continue the work for peace and world brotherhood. The award is given annually to a black author and illustrator whose books, published in the preceding year, are outstanding inspirational and educational contributions to literature for children and young people.

The National Book Award for Young People’s Literature

The National Book Award for Young People’s Literature is presented each year in
November to recognize an outstanding contribution to children’s literature. The award committee will consider books of all genres written for children and young adults by U.S. writers with an emphasis on literary merit. The Young People’s Literature category was created in 1996.
