PROGRAM GOALS
 
  • Provide a safe and relaxed environment where children's physical and emotional
    needs are met.
     
  • Provide an environment where children can develop an enthusiasm for learning,
    exploring and creativity through constructive play activities in art, drama,
    literature, cooking, music and movement.
     
  • Establish an atmosphere of respect for self and other's and respect for equipment
    and materials.
     
  • Help children develop self-control and a clear understanding of expectations.
     
  • Help children learn how to function in a mixed-aged group.
     
  • Provide ample opportunity to develop coordination and large motor skills through
    physical activity and outdoor play.
     
  • Provide opportunities to become independent and responsible through self-
    directed and individualized activities.
WHAT KID'S CLUB OFFERS
  • A comfortable and safe environment where children can explore, play and relax.
     
  • A maximum of 18 children per caregiver according to state regulations. Our Kids Club is normally staffed at one caregiver per ten children. Enrollment of children with special needs will be considered on an individual basis. 
     
  • Qualified personnel who care about your child's well-being and happiness.
     
  • Varied activities that foster cognitive, social, emotional, linguistic and physical
    growth and development.
     
  • Procedures and disciple methods that teach and encourage self-control, self-
    esteem and cooperation.
     
  • A large variety of equipment, books, crafts, games and toys.

General Information

Days:

  • Monday through Friday during the school year: 7:15 a.m. to opening bell and the close of school to 6:30 p.m.

  • Conference Days - Kids Club is also open during parent/teacher conferences or staff development training.  These are 1/2 days and must be pre-arranged for an extra fee.  Full daycare for staff development days will be provided at Richard Elementary only.  Please check with the director for the dates.

Calendar:

  • Kids Club will be closed on the following days:
    Snow days and other emergency closings
    Thanksgiving-Thursday and Friday
    Winter Vacation- December/January
    Midwinter Break-February
    Spring Vacation-March or April
    Memorial Day-May

Absences:

  • On-Site Director must be advised if your child will be absent in the afternoon. Call your school's Kids Club number to leave a message. If there is no notification of cancellation of care, there will be a charge of two units per incident.  This call is not necessary for morning attendance in Kids Club as you must walk in your child and we will know of the morning absence.

Schedule of Activities:

  • The following is a flexible listing of how a typical day might run:
    3:38-4:00 p.m. - Check in and Snack
    4:00-4:50 p.m. - Outdoors/Gym and Arts and Crafts
    4:40-5:30 p.m. - Quiet Time: Reading, Homework, Storytelling,
    5:30-6:30 p.m. - Free Time: Board Games, Puzzles, Card Games, Arts and Crafts

  • Snack - a snack is provided during the afternoon session.

  • Homework - doing homework is encouraged. The director will help with homework or special projects if possible.

Proper Clothing:

  • Arts and crafts are an important part of our program. We make every effort to see that
    children's clothing is protected while they work on their projects. Children must be
    dressed appropriately and parents should be aware that the school system IS NOT
    RESPONSIBLE if dirt, paint, glue crayons, magic markers, etc. get on children's
    clothing.

Personal Property:
  • We discourage children from bringing items from home. ex: Game Boy, IPod, or anything of value.  Kids Club and The Grosse Pointe Public School System are not responsible if items are lost, stolen or broken.

Medication:

  • The only medication we are allowed to give is prescription medication in the original container with the child's name on the pharmacy label along with the doctor's name and the instructions for dosage.  We cannot give your child aspirin, Tylenol, or any non-prescription/over the counter type drugs.

Transportation:

  • Parents must provide transportation. Children are to be walked into and out of school
    by parents or designated person.

Behavior Expectations:

  • Please discuss the following rules with your child:
    • Respect the Director and Caregivers
    • Respect your peers.
    • Do not use profanity or crude words.
    • Respect program equipment and school property.
    • Stay in room unless the Director gives you permission to leave.
    • Stay with the group.
    • Clean up after using games, doing crafts or eating snacks.

  • Disciplinary Action:
     Kids Club uses a positive method of discipline, which encourages self-control,
    self-direction and cooperation. Should serious misconduct occur, the following steps
    would be taken:

    FIRST WARNING: Notification to parents by Director, Principal or Coordinator.
    SECOND WARNING: Exclusion of child from the program for 2-5 days.
    FINAL WARNING: Exclusion of child from the program for the remainder of the school year.

Checking In and Out:
  • Parents must assume the responsibility of walking their child into the morning
    session.

  • Children must check in for the afternoon session. Parents must sign their child
    out before leaving the building. Failure to do so may result in exclusion from the
    program.

  • Notify the On-Site Director of your child's participation in extracurricular activities
    (scouts, catechism, etc.). Failure to notify the On-Site Director of changes in your child's
    schedule will result in a two unit charge per incident.

Picking up Children:

  • Children must be picked up and signed out by a parent or authorized person. It is
    important to sign the child out with initials and time.

  • Names of authorized people must be submitted in writing in advance and will
    NOT be accepted over the phone.

  • A fee for late pick-up will be charged if a child is picked up after 6:30 p.m. See fee sheet for details. In the event of a late pick-up, On-Site Directors will stay with the child and try to reach a parent or authorized person until 7:00 p.m., at which time the police will be called.
