DreamWriters are a new addition to the computer technology for Ferry School.  A DreamWriter®I.T. is a type of laptop computer, produced by NTS Computer Systems Ltd. of British Columbia, Canada.  The Grosse Pointe School System bought 30 DreamWriters for each of the nine elementary schools.   They are housed in two Rol-A-Labs® which recharge them on a daily basis.  They operate using the battery power or external power 

    DreamWriters use Windows CE .  They have Pocket Editions of Microsoft Word, Access, Power Point and Excel.  The use an Infrared Connection for printing or file sharing.

    The primary purpose for the DreamWriters is to alleviate the problem of scheduling in the Computer Labs for the Typin's Cool Program which the 3rd, 4th and 5th Graders must take.  By using the DreamWriters in the classrooms, the Lab time is not taken up for weeks at a time by keyboarding.  The students have been very enthusiastic about using the new DreamWriters for the Typin's Cool Program and now look forward to using them for practice and word processing.
