This form is to be used for workshops
offered by groups, organizations or school systems outside of The Grosse
Pointe Public School System. The workshop must relate to the teacher’s current assignment or
provide additional training in a category for which local qualification is
held. No salary credit will be
given if any district funds are spent for the workshop. Out-of-District
workshops require prior approval.
1. Who uses this form?
Any staff member who wants to
receive salary credit for a workshop that is offered on days and/or times
when our schools are not in session and does not involve the
use of district funds.
2. Who doesn’t use this form?
New teachers who wish to receive New Teacher Credit towards their required
90 hours. New teachers who are attending during the school day and/or the
district is paying for them to attend the workshop should apply for New
Teacher Credit by submitting proof of attendance, a copy of an agenda or
flyer listing dates and times of the workshop. A brief report and the
"Application for Conference or Workshop Attendance" form should include the principal's
signature. (See "School Day Workshops" section.)
3. What if the workshop offers college
credit?
Workshops offering college credit may be taken for Out-of-District
workshop credit. However, the number of workshop hours granted cannot
exceed the amount of college credit offered for the same workshop. For
example, a course that is offered for one semester hour of college credit
equals twenty (20) workshop hours of credit.
4. Are there any special qualifications to
receive credit?

Where do I find the forms?
Each school office has copies of the form available.
8. What do I need to include with the
completed form?
A brochure, flyer or other information describing the workshop. The
brochure or flyer must include specific dates and times.
9.What do I do next?
After completing the form and including documents, submit the form to your
principal for review and initial approval. The principal verifies that the
workshop is related to current assignment or provides additional training.
The principal also verifies that no district funds are being spent. He/she
then initials and signs the appropriate line on the form. (Principal keeps the
pink copy.)
10. After my
principal approves the workshop, then what?
Send the completed application form with both the applicant and principal
signatures and the flyer/brochure to the Office of Staff Development at
least two (2) weeks before the workshop. No
credit will be granted if both signatures are not obtained before the
workshop. (Applications that are submitted late must also include a
cover memo explaining the reason for the late submission.)
11. Do I keep a copy of the application and
where do I send it?
Yes, you keep the gold copy. Submit the other two pages and
flyer/brochure to the Staff Development Office.
12. Who has to sign it?
The Assistant Superintendent of
Curriculum and Instruction reviews the form and signs it indicating
approval. The canary (yellow) copy is returned to the applicant. The white
copy and brochure/flyer are retained in the Staff Development office.
13. Are there standard deductions from all
day seminars?
Yes, for each day a deduction of one (1) hour for lunch and two (2) 15
minute breaks will be made unless the agenda shows a different time
schedule was followed.
14. How do I receive credit?
After attending the prior-approved workshop, the applicant must prepare a
one-page summary of learning, attach it to the canary copy with
verification of attendance (a certificate of attendance, the signature of
the instructor, or a registration receipt) and submit these documents to
the Staff Development Office for final approval. The Assistant
Superintendent returns the canary (yellow) copy with final approval of the
credit hours. Staff Development then processes the final approval in the
computer for credit.
15. Is there a deadline for approval?
The final report is due by September 1 of the following school year
that runs
from July 1 to June 30 for credit hour purposes.
16. How will I know if I received credit?
The applicant receives the canary copy with the final approval noted in
the upper right corner. In addition, every staff member receives an Annual
Workshop Credit Record Summary in March.
