Introduction

Welcome to the Michigan Native American Legends WebQuest!

A legend is an unproven story based on fact. A legend also includes ideas from the imagination. Legends are passed on from one person to another by the oral tradition (word of mouth).

You've probably read some well-known legends such as Johnny Appleseed, Paul Bunyon and his blue ox, and others.  Legends contain story elements.

The Task

In this WebQuest, you will be working together with a partner to do the following activities:

  1. Read a selection of legends

  2. Analyze the legends by identifying their elements.

  3. Create a story map for your own legend.

  4. Write and illustrate your own Michigan Native American legend, based on your story map.

  5. Share your legend.
